> For Father of the Bride Help – Contact Us

It’s a day that is as big for you as it is for your daughter and her mother when it comes to making it magical. But it’s not easy being a good Father-of-the-Bride. From our years of experience we can assure you Dads, that you are in good company. Few father’s benefit from receiving the “How-to Manuel” in understanding wedding speak amongst women, no less being clued-up on all the duties and traditions that come with the role.

Which is exactly why, Unlisted is here to help coach fathers in how to manage all that needs managing when it comes to the before and after one of life’s biggest moments – so here are our top precepts ever FOTB-to-be should know on:

Duties - in order of importance

  • As this is a girl-centred moment – a demeanour of compassion, dignity, kindness, understanding and love will serve you and all others well;
  • During the lead-up - think of yourself as a rudder and anchor! Your role, including the financial elements, encompasses liaising with your daughter and her partner to understand their wishes/dreams; acting as a source of advice and being forthcoming with offers of help at every stage (but know when to back away!).
  • Acting as a calming influence which may include the daunting task of keeping guests list and the Bride’s mother in tow!
  • As show-time approaches – think of yourself as the master-of-ceremony - being fully aware of the day’s timetable and who is managing what to make sure that everyone is kept on their toes.

Traditional Protocols in sequence:

  • Travelling with the Bride to the wedding ceremony then to the reception venue with the Bride’s Mother
  • Accompanying the Bride down the aisle – then standing in the receiving line alongside her
  • Making the first of the wedding speeches - (which must be crafted and practiced)
  • Dancing with the Bride’s mother when invited onto the floor of the ‘first dance’ and then sharing a father-daughter dance
  • And being the last to leave ensuring all is settled
